Bloodborne Remake Was Never in Development at Bluepoint Games
For a long time, there were rumors about a Bloodborne remake being developed by Bluepoint Games. However, this does not appear to be true. Two former employees of the studio have clarified the situation, speaking about the projects the company worked on in recent years before it was closed by Sony last week.
It has now been confirmed that Sony did not cancel a Bloodborne remake by Bluepoint simply because the project was never assigned to the studio. This does not mean that other PlayStation studios are not working on the game, but only that Bluepoint never developed it and no remake was ever in progress at the studio behind the Demon’s Souls remake.
Bluepoint’s Recent Projects and Cancellations
After being acquired in 2021, Bluepoint supported Sony Santa Monica in the development of God of War Ragnarok. The studio later proposed a God of War live service project. The idea was initially approved but was eventually canceled after several years of development due to various issues and missed deadlines.
Following the cancellation of the God of War live service project, Bluepoint proposed four more projects to Sony, including two remakes. However, all of them were rejected. According to reports, Sony was not satisfied with the commercial performance of Bluepoint’s games, which have sold over seven million copies in total. This figure was reportedly not enough to cover the costs of a AAA production.
One of the two remakes proposed by Bluepoint is said to now be in development at another internal Sony studio. However, it is not clear which title this could be.
For now, it seems clear that Bluepoint was never working on a Bloodborne remake, despite the long-standing rumors.
