Borderlands 4 Development on Nintendo Switch 2 Has Been Paused
Borderlands 4 may not be released on Nintendo Switch 2, as Take-Two Interactive has confirmed that development of this version has been paused. The game was expected to arrive on the console a few months after its original launch, but that plan now appears uncertain.
The decision was reportedly made directly by the publisher and was mentioned during the company’s Q3 2026 financial results. No clear reason was given for stopping development, which makes the move somewhat surprising, especially considering the strong market performance of Nintendo Switch 2.
Development on Nintendo Switch 2 Has Been Paused
“We made the difficult decision to pause development on that SKU,” said Alan Lewis, a Take-Two spokesperson, speaking to Variety about the Nintendo Switch 2 edition of Borderlands 4.
At the moment, the reasons behind this choice remain unclear. The lack of explanation has raised questions, given the popularity of the platform and the interest surrounding the game.
“Our focus continues to be delivering quality post-launch content for players on the ongoing improvements to optimize the game,” Lewis added, confirming that support for the versions already available on the market will continue.
He also clarified that Take-Two’s relationship with Nintendo is still strong, even if Borderlands 4 is currently on hold for Switch 2. “We’re continuing to collaborate closely with our friends at Nintendo. We have ‘PGA Tour 2K25’ coming out and ‘WWE 2K26’ [for Switch 2], and we’re incredibly excited about bringing more of our titles to that platform in the future.”
Meanwhile, Take-Two has already shared its content roadmap for Borderlands 4 in 2026, confirming that the game will receive long-term support on other platforms.
