Build a Rocket Boy Begins Layoffs Following Disastrous Launch of MindsEye

In a report to IGN, the studio Build A Rocket Boy, the people behind MindsEye, have announced they have just begun the redundancy process that is likely to affect over 100 employees at the Studio. This information comes from an anonymous insider who told IGN there’s no word yet on exactly how many staff are affected, but the standard 45-day consultation process starts today.

Build a Rocket Boy Begins Layoffs

This consultation process is part of UK law, which is triggered when an employer proposes 100 or more redundancies within a 90-day period. From what we know, Build A Rocket Boy currently has around 300 employees in the UK and a further 200 abroad, so from those numbers and from just how badly the MindsEye launch was, we could be looking at way more than 100 people losing their jobs.

The worst part about all this is that it’s likely not even the people who should be getting sacked. Instead, it will be the underpaid, overworked developers getting the boot instead of the executives who made the decisions that led to the trainwreck we now know as Mindseye.

This comes only a couple of weeks after the game’s release and just a week after the devs announced that they were heartbroken over the issues players were facing in their game and promised to issue a series of patches to fix the significant performance problems, glitches, and AI behaviour issues.

So What Now?

This now brings up the question of whether Build A Rocket Boy will be able to fulfil its post-launch roadmap for content, including the promised multiplayer mode, on time. Will there actually be any players left to experience the multiplayer mode? Will it even come out? Well, it’s not looking too likely, is it? I mean, the steam 24-hour peak alone is down to 126 players, down from its all time of peak of 1,393.

We’d normally include a “where to buy section, but honestly, it’s not worth it.
