Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare’s Trailer is Now Second Most Disliked Video on YouTube

Call of Duty

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare hasn’t received the best reception, to put it mildly, and is now officially the second most disliked video on YouTube. At the time of writing, the game’s trailer has over 2.1 million dislikes and 21,191,634 views. In contrast to this, the trailer only has a mere 357,996 likes and the rate of hatred doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. Clearly, there are a number of reasons contributing to this negative reaction and the main complaint revolves around the game’s futuristic setting. Call of Duty fans idealistically hoped for a return to a classical setting such as World War II and expected something which felt relatively fresh. On another note, Activision’s business decision to only allow customers to access the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare remaster with their latest title didn’t do themselves any favours. Additionally, consumers have to purchase more expensive editions like the Legacy and Digital Deluxe to enjoy the HD remaster.

This widespread negativity has spawned a new trending hashtag on Twitter entitled, “#RIPCOD”. Despite being in second place, the trailer doesn’t look like it will reach the top spot which is still held by everyone’s favourite (sigh) artist Justin Bieber with some horror piece called Baby. Nevertheless, this is a terrible situation and a gross misunderstanding of the Call of Duty’s player base. Whether this will result in more hardened COD fans moving to Battlefield is unclear, but I’m interested to see the sales figures once the game is released.

What do you think of the Call of Duty franchise? Personally, I’m too busy enjoying Doom!
