The rumours about the Call of Duty franchise returning to its roots with another World War II game finally have confirmation. A countdown to the unveiling on April 26 has begun on the Call of Duty website, scheduled for 10AM PDT and will have a livestreamed event. Call of Duty: World War II follows last year’s distant future shooter Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. The new game is under development by Sledgehammer Games, whose previous projects include Modern Warfare 3 and Advanced Warfare.
The original Call of Duty title came out in 2003. It even won multiple awards including Game of the Year by the Academy of Arts and Sciences. It receives praise for its innovative narrative style that capture the shell-shock and overwhelming aspect of the battle. They did this while keeping players thoroughly engaged in conflict. The original game let players experience life as a solider in 1944. Participating in the lives of various soldiers from different campaigns. The very first mission begins in Normandy. Letting the player step into the boots of a member of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment in basic training. From there, it takes them to the eve of D-Day. It also let players experience the British side of the WWII campaign. Moreover, even play as the Soviet side during the Battle of Stalingrad.
