Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Faces Massive Sales Collapse, Down 82% from Black Ops 6
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 has fallen far short of expectations. Its campaign mode is considered one of the weakest—if not the weakest—in the entire history of the franchise. The multiplayer mode has not been able to save it from failure either, and the numbers show that the situation is even worse than expected.
According to data shared by Video Game Insights, the game is losing players rapidly. As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 sold only 401,000 copies in its first 26 days on Steam—an 82% drop compared to Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, which sold 2.3 million copies in the same period.
Player Engagement Hits Record Low
It takes a lot to go wrong for such a popular franchise to experience an 82% decline in its first 26 days on sale, especially during the period that usually records the highest number of purchases.
The poor performance of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is illustrated by a chart showing concurrent player counts on Steam. The game’s peak player base is even lower than that of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III—which says a lot. Compared to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, the peak number of players has dropped by 80%.
Activision Blizzard has admitted that sales did not meet expectations and announced plans to take measures to boost interest in the franchise and improve its overall quality. The company has also confirmed that it will offer free multiplayer and zombies mode trials in an effort to attract more players.
