Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Reaches a Much Lower Steam Peak Than Expected
The new Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 has finally arrived and gamers around the world have jumped into the Activision and Microsoft title. Exactly how many have committed to the FPS? We don’t yet have official data, but we can get an idea of the numbers via SteamDB — admittedly only for the PC version on Valve’s platform. The early numbers, however, are not particularly encouraging.
Steam Figures Fall Short
According to SteamDB, at the time of writing Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 has reached just over 86,000 concurrent players. The number is rising and could change for the better in the coming hours, but it remains significantly lower than what Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 achieved in 2024 — that previous title gathered almost 230,000 concurrent users.
The figure for Black Ops 7 is more striking when you note that ARC Raiders and Battlefield 6 are collecting more than 418,000 and over 271,000 players respectively (and those numbers are also rising). In short, it seems that Black Ops 7 is struggling compared to its competition and the previous chapter.
We must remember that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is also available on Game Pass, which might currently represent a large portion of PC players.
Also, new games tend to hit their peak user numbers over the weekend, so it’s possible many players chose to wait a little longer to begin their new adventure, causing the concurrent-player number (which does not represent total sales) to be lower than expected.
For now, keep an eye on the numbers later in the weekend to see if Black Ops 7 picks up more momentum than its initial public PC numbers suggest.
