Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 on PS4 and PS5 May Have Passed 7 Million Players
The recent PS4 and PS5 versions of Call of Duty: Black Ops (2010) and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 (2012) may have reached more than 7 million players in total.
The figure is not official, so it should be treated with caution. It comes from a new widget included in the latest PS5 firmware beta, which shows how many users have played a specific game during the past week.
PS4 and PS5 Versions of Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2
According to information shared on ResetERA, Call of Duty: Black Ops had around 1.96 million players, while Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 reached about 5.25 million players.
If these numbers are correct, they are very impressive, especially since both games are more than 14 years old. The PS4 and PS5 versions are simple ports without major improvements, and each game launched at $40, with DLC sold separately. PlayStation Plus members were able to get a 50% discount for a limited time.
The strong player numbers suggest that Activision Blizzard’s nostalgia-focused release has been a commercial success. However, it is still unclear if the publisher plans to fix the hacks and exploits found in the PS4 and PS5 versions of the original Call of Duty: Black Ops, as these issues were carried over from the original PS3 release.
