Can your hardware limit online gaming speeds?

Now i am sure most of you are aware that when it comes to playing games on your computer then the hardware that makes up your computer has a huge effect on how the game plays and to a large extent the satisfaction that you gain from playing that game.

For once, we are not going to concentrate on the likes of Call of Duty, Dead Space 2 and StarCraft, not for any reason against the games but purely because we are going to look at a niche of online games.

In particular, have you considered that your computer’s hardware might actually influence how much money you could win on online gambling sites? You might be shocked to see the figures that in 2001 a surprising £5 billion was spent on online casino games alone and this is a small proportion of the total online gambling figures. This is expected to be well over £20 billion for the year 2010.

You may also say that surely the internet connection is the only thing that slows down online gambling websites. However, as internet connections have on average increased by a rough factor of 10 in the last 10 years and website servers for companies that combined turn over several million a day have the bandwidth to cope with several times the peak value of people connected. The point is that internet connections have increased more than the games and websites demand so in 95% of cases once the website and application has loaded you won’t be left with a loading page.

The hardware is therefore more of a limiting factor when playing online role playing, strategy or even while gambling. Primarily, the graphic quality has increased dramatically which also leads to higher processing load by both the GPU and CPU. This is something you notice more if you have both a laptop and desktop computer, where the same online game takes longer to load even when connected through the exact same connection, it is maybe quite a subtle difference but when your reactions can cost you hundreds of pounds then it is only a small investment to guarantee smooth game play.

So if you like to play slots online, or try to be the next James Bond at an online casino. There is always something you can do to improve your chances of winning.
