Capcom Says the Decline of Physical Games Will Not Have a Major Impact on Its Business
While many developers have said they are disappointed by PlayStation’s move away from disc-based games, not everyone in the industry shares that view. Capcom has made it clear that it is not particularly concerned about the transition to digital, explaining that the change is unlikely to have a major impact on its business.
The Osaka-based company revealed that around 90% of its total game sales now come from digital purchases. As a result, fewer Capcom games are being released on physical discs.
Capcom Explains Why It Is Not Concerned About the End of Physical Games
Because of this, the company told investors that it is not worried about the shrinking physical games market, as it does not expect it to have a significant impact on its revenue.
It appears that some of the biggest companies in the video game industry are not concerned about this major shift and are instead largely indifferent to it.
At the same time, Capcom has shown no intention of abandoning physical releases before the market naturally moves in that direction. Since the company has made no announcement about ending disc releases, players can still expect more physical Capcom games to arrive before 2028.
In other news, Sony now includes a warning on PS5 Disc Edition boxes, confirming that all new PlayStation games will switch to digital-only releases from January 2028.
