CD Projekt Red Co-Founder Takes Full Control of GOG
The co-founder of GOG and CD Projekt Red has acquired 100% ownership of GOG. The deal confirms that the digital store is now fully independent under his control, marking an important change for the company’s future.
GOG is best known for selling PC games without DRM and for its focus on game preservation. Until now, the platform was closely linked to CD Projekt, the studio behind The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077.
GOG Becomes Fully Independent
The acquisition was made by Marcin Iwiński, co-founder of CD Projekt Red and GOG. With this move, he now owns all shares of GOG, separating it from CD Projekt as a business entity.
This change allows GOG to make its own decisions without being tied to the priorities of a large game studio. The goal is to give the platform more freedom to grow and improve its services.
GOG will continue to focus on DRM-free games, which let players own and play their games without online checks or restrictions. The platform also plans to strengthen its work on preserving classic games, making sure they remain playable on modern systems.
According to the announcement, this new structure will help GOG stay true to its original vision while adapting to changes in the PC game market. The store will keep working with developers and publishers, both big and small, to expand its catalog.
No changes for users are expected in the short term, but the company believes this move will bring long-term benefits.
