ChatGPT Reaches 800 Million Weekly Users

The growth of ChatGPT continues at a fast pace. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, has announced that the platform has reached 800 million weekly active users. The figure was revealed during the company’s developer event, OpenAI Dev Day. This confirms the rapid adoption of the tool by both individual users and the professional sector.

This new milestone shows a major acceleration in its popularity. Just in August, the company reported it was close to 700 million weekly users—a big jump from the 500 million recorded at the end of March.

More Than Just a Chatbot

According to Altman, artificial intelligence has gone from being “something people play with” to “something people build with every day.” A clear example is the growing developer ecosystem around its technology. Currently, about 4 million developers use OpenAI’s tools to create their own apps and services—an essential part of the company’s expansion strategy.

The platform’s success has had a direct impact on OpenAI’s finances. After a private share sale, OpenAI recently became the world’s most valuable privately held company, with a valuation of $500 billion. Despite its success, the service has faced controversies, such as concerns about AI hallucinations and the misuse of the technology.
