Cherry MX Developer Kit with 110 Switches Now Available
Ron Perillo / 3 years ago
Cherry is announcing the availability of the MX Developer kit, a set of 110 individual Cherry MX switches in a single package. This allows keyboard enthusiasts to customize the keyboard to their liking. Initially it will only be available in two switch options: MX Silent Black and MX Speed Silver. Even the packaging comes in an attractive container like it is a box of chocolates. Users can purchase single-key switches such as CHERRY MX Red, Black, Blue, Brown, Green, Clear, Silent and Speed, and incorporate it into the custom project as well. These switches have been available a lot longer than the two new ones so they are readily available in many electronic parts stores individually.
Different Cherry MX switches have different housing pinouts, as well as having several options for LED diode implementation. There are four options for the pin configuration, dealing with either RGB LED compatibility or whether it is PCB or plate mounted.
The default switches available for the developer kit are ideal for building either an office or a gaming keyboard. The MX Silent Black switch in particular is linear. It has a built-in noise dampening without the need to put extra o-rings. The MX Speed Silver on the other hand is the fastest switch Cherry offers. With a short pre-travel of 1.2 mm, it lets users input key strokes faster ideal for serious gaming.
