Cherry Tree Launches Borg Cube PC

The Borg are one of Star Trek’s most iconic villains, thanks to their striking visual design. If you’re not familiar, the Borg are a pasty-faced collective which eschews the concept of the individual. Like zombies, they turn – or assimilate – other races into more Borg. Plus, they fly around in giant black cubes. Now, Star Trek fans can add the Borg’s technological distinctiveness to your own in the form of a Borg Cube PC, officially licenced by Cherry Tree.

The detailed outer case and internal glowing green LEDs – possibly the only time PC LEDs would be conspicuous by their absence – accurately recreates the famed Star Trek vessel. However, unlike the giant monoliths piloted by the Borg, this cube is actually tiny: in fact, only six inches cubed.

Inside the Borg Cube

The Cherry Tree Borg Cube PC is available in three variations: a Core i3 version, a Core i5, and Core i7. The PC, though, is customisable, so you can pick and choose your CPU/RAM/storage combo. However, the PC does not include a graphics card and the STX motherboard does not feature any PCIe slots. In fact, if you want a graphics card to accompany your Borg Cube, it’ll have to be an eternal one. Regardless, though, the Borg Cubes are reasonably priced, considering. While the homepage mentions USB 3.1 Type-C, it doesn’t list any ports in the specifications, sadly.

Price and Availability

The Cherry Tree Borg Cube PC is available for pre-order in three variants:

• i3 Borg Cube (Intel Core i3-7100 processor, 8GB DDR4 RAM, 120GB M.2 PCI-e drive): $599
• i5 Borg Cube (Intel Core i5-7600K processor, 16GB DDR4 RAM, 250GB M.2 PCI-e drive): $899
• i7 Borg Cube (Intel Core i7-7700K processor, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 500GB M.2 PCI-e drive): $1,299

Custom options – including an additional 2.5-inch SSD – are available, though. At the time of writing, there are only 323 (of 359 units, a reference to the Battle of Wolf 359) units remaining, so if you want a Borg Cube PC you should order now. The PC ships on 24^th November.
