Chieftec Hunter ARGB Mid-Tower Case Review

How Much Does it Cost?

The Chieftec Hunter GS-01B-OP Mid-Tower PC Case is available now, however, stock only seems to be showing at a few retailers just now. You can find it at LambdaTek as well as Alternate for around £65. However, Chieftec does have an Amazon store in the UK, and you can check for stock of it here.

Overview

The latest case from Chieftec isn’t perfect, but any issues it does have really are pretty minor. For example, it uses those snap-off expansion slot covers on the back, I don’t like them, but for your typical built-it-once PC user, it’s really not an issue. The tempered glass mounts using thumbscrews, and the rubber grommet mounts at the top were a pain in the backside, and kept falling and rolling away under my desk. Some small amount of adhesive would fix that up though. Perhaps the PSU shroud could be more of a shroud too, it’s got more holes in it than a cheese grater.

The Good Stuff

OK let’s be honest, a couple of clips, a rolling grommet, and a well ventilated PSU shroud are not really deal breakers at all. What this case does have though is… everything! Let’s start with the fact it has tempered glass on the side, a standard “premium” feature these days, but it’s always a welcome one, and perfect for showing off your hardware.

Then you have four ARGB fans pre-installed. That’s an impressive addition at such a competitive price range. Aftermarket fan kits are both expensive, and a bit of a pain to install due to the excessive number of cables required. The RGB tech here isn’t the most advanced, and the fans aren’t massively bright either, but they’re more than good enough for the job. I think they look great, and the colours are nice and vibrant.

Then you have the addition of that ARGB fan control hub. Just plug in a SATA cable and you’re good to go. No fussing around hooking absolutely everything up to all the headers on your motherboard, and it really streamlines the build process. Plus, it keeps all that cable gore tucked out of sight.

A few HDD and SSD mounts are tucked out of sight, giving you all the storage you’ll need. But overall, it just frees up the front of the case for big graphics cards, and fantastic airflow throughout the case.

Should I Buy One?

It’s great to see Chieftec come up with a more modern design, and I do think they were long overdue a design like this. Of course, the case market is insanely competitive right now, but Chieftec has certainly given it their best shot. With ARGB lighting, a built-in fan and lighting hub, tempered glass, excellent cable routing and more, the Chieftec Hunter is a serious competitor.
