Classic Nokia 3310 to Make a Comeback

It has been news for a while that Nokia is set to return to the market with several new Android handsets expected, in fact the Nokia 6 has already been released in China ahead of everyone else, but a more interesting news is the fact that the classic Nokia 3310 is set to make a return as well. The original was launched in 2000 weighing 133 grams and measures 113 x 48 x 22mm. The rest of its specs are not particularly impressive, especially compared to today’s standards with a simple display screen that only has 5-line monochrome graphics with the ability to have dynamic font size, set welcome messages and screensavers. The handsets popularity stems from the fact that it is notorious for having remarkable battery life and seemingly indestructible construction; the type of legendary, meme-worthy durability that only Chuck Norris can aspire to.

The revived Nokia 3310 is expected to be modernized homage in some ways. Although there are no details yet, VentureBeat reports that it will be priced at €59 and will be announced at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona together with the Nokia 3, 5 and 6 which will be priced €149, €199 and €249 respectively.

After Nokia was acquired by Microsoft, the brand has been used to push their Windows phones but have failed to take a foothold against Apple and Android’s market share. Now HMD Global, a Finnish manufacturer some of whose team members are former Nokia employees before the Microsoft acquisition, has acquired the license to use the Nokia branding and create new phones. HMD Global is manufacturing the phones in partnership with Foxconn.
