Climber Scales Skyscraper with Two Vacuum Cleaners

If your burning desire is to climb sheer glass-and-metal buildings with ease, but don’t fancy being bitten by a radioactive spider, you’re in luck: all you need is a couple of modified vacuum cleaners. Professional rock climber Sierra Blair-Coyle scaled a 33-storey, 140-metre office block, using nothing more than two LG CordZero cordless vacuum cleaners.

To achieve the stunt, a promotional event organised by LG, the vacuums were fitted with custom-build, handheld suction cups to allow Blair-Coyle to sucker her way up the side of the high-rise. Granted, the two CordZero vacuum cleaners needed to be swapped out halfway through after the 80V lithium-ion batteries fully discharged, and Blair-Coyle (understandably) had various safety ropes in place, but the climb is still an impressive feat.

“We hoped to draw attention to the innovative technologies that power the appliances we so often take for granted and this project succeeded in doing just that,” Simon Jeon, Senior Vice President of the Washing Machine Business Unit at the LG Home Appliance & Air Solution Company, said. “We wanted to demonstrate that today’s vacuum cleaners include sophisticated technologies that can undertake extraordinary challenges and thanks to Sierra, I think the message came through loud and clear.”
