CM Storm Quickfire Ultimate Mechanical Keyboard Review

Final Thoughts

Price

The CM Storm Quickfire Ultimate is available from most major retailers for around £80. At time of writing, it is available from Box.co.uk for just £79.99 with free shipping and comes with a two-year warranty from Cooler Master.

Overview

The Quickfire Ultimate is pretty straight forward in terms of design, so it’s perfectly easy to live with day-to-day while working, browsing the web, or typing up articles like I am right now. It really does impress the most while gaming, but focusing on this aspect alone would be selling it short; it’s a very solid all-rounder and when you’re planning on using your keyboard full-time at your PC, that’s exactly what you want. Cherry MX mechanical switches are great for working and typing, sure they’re a little louder than membrane switches, but the tactile feedback you get is very satisfying.

The Quickfire Ultimate has some of the best build quality I’ve seen. The keyboard feels very strong and heavy, certainly more than tough enough to survive a few hard knocks and bumps; no doubt good news for those who take their keyboard with them to gaming events. The exterior of the keyboard has been given a thick rubber coating, which not only looks great, but it’s also very resistant against scratches and is pretty easy to keep clean. Of course, you’ve also got the premium quality of the Cherry MX switches and a full removable (and replaceable) high-quality braided microUSB cable.

This is easily one of the best gaming keyboards money can buy right now, sure it doesn’t have macro recording features, or crazy software that allows endless lighting customisation, dozens of profiles or anything else like that, but it does have all the basic you could need and it does them all exceptionally well. Performance is superb and while its design is fairly understated, it does still look fantastic, especially once you fire up the LED backlighing.

Pros

  • Exceptionally good build quality
  • Choice of switch/LED colour
  • Rubber grip coating
  • LED backlighting
  • Plug-and-play functionality
  • All settings are accessible from keyboard
  • Removable braided cable
  • Competitive price
  • N-Key rollover

Cons

  • None

“The CM Storm Quickfire Ultimate is a pretty straight forward keyboard overall, but it comes with just enough features to satisfy the needs of any serious gamer, either at home or within the eSports community. It’s just as perfect for day to day use in the office and it’s even better when you want to enjoy some gaming action, with the added bonus that it has some of the best build quality you’ll find from any mechanical keyboard; you really couldn’t ask for much more.”
