Noctua’s NH-L9 series of CPU coolers includes the NH-L9i and NH-L9a with one targeted at AMD sockets and the other at Intel. We’ve actually reviewed the NH-L9i and found it to be an excellent CPU cooler for the form factor.
At Computex Noctua have been showing us their design revisions to these CPU coolers. At just 37mm you can see why there is a need to maximise design compatibility as space is of the essence. Both the L9a and L9i versions have been revised. The Noctua NH-L9a has been revised to include an alternate mounting kit for those AMD motherboards which don’t follow AMD specifications. We actually already detailed this revision here a while back. The next revision, for the NH-L9i, involves Noctua modifying the heatsink to provide more clearance for tall capacitors as a select handful of motherboards had capacitors too high for the previous design.
Any current users of the NH-L9a can get the free mounting kit upgrade if they are using a non-compatible motherboard on the old mounting system.
Stay tuned to eTeknix for more Computex coverage in our Computex section.
