Control Reaches 20 Million Players as Sales Hit 5 Million Copies Worldwide
According to Remedy Entertainment’s financial report for the fiscal year ending on December 31, 2025, the studio has shared updated sales figures for Control, along with another data point that is even more interesting.
The number of people who have played Control is four times higher than the number of copies sold. Let’s take a closer look at the details.
Based on the data published by Remedy Entertainment, Control has sold a total of five million copies worldwide, combining both physical and digital versions. This result includes one million copies sold during 2025 alone.
Player Count Far Exceeds Sales
While sales are strong, the total number of players is much higher. Remedy confirmed that 20 million people have played Control since its launch in August 2019.
The reason is easy to explain. Control has been included in subscription services such as Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus, as well as other third-party platforms, allowing many users to try the game without purchasing it directly.
Reaching such a large audience gives Remedy confidence for the future. The studio hopes to turn this wide player base into strong sales for the sequel, Control Resonant, with the goal of making it feel like a must-buy at launch title.
