Cooler Master GM27-CFX 240Hz Gaming Monitor Review

How Much Does it Cost?

The Cooler Master GM27-CFX Gaming Monitor is available now, and while Amazon has it listed at £207, it does seem there are deals going around on this panel, as I can find it for as little as £169.99 at CCL Computers and Box. However, check with your retailers of choice, as these prices change all the time, and I’m certain you’ll find one well under £200 with a little Google-Fu.

Overview

Cooler Master is becoming one of the leading names for gaming monitors. It shouldn’t surprise you to hear that I have three of them at home, on my desk, my partner’s desk and my son’s desk. Since I actually review monitors for a living and get first-hand experience in testing what’s got the best performance and value, that should tell you quite a lot about how good I think Cooler Master is doing right now. Naturally, it looks like the new Cooler Master GM27-CFX is another winner, and while it’s not perfect, its overall performance and price are just so damn good, they gloss over any minor issues.

Out of the box, the monitor is set up surprisingly well. The colours are extremely accurate, far better than they have any need to be in this price range. The contrast, black levels, peak brightness, it’s all very good indeed. The only quirk is the Gamma, which despite having five settings, never seems to actually deliver the gamma setting they say they’re going to. Regardless, the monitor still looks good, and using its Gamma 2.4 or even its 2.6 settings did result in the best image quality overall.

There are loads of options for gaming profiles, colour spaces and more, but while it’s nice to have them and not need them, I largely recommend leaving them alone given the good out-of-the-box settings, you’ll just throw your colour accuracy and everything else in the trash playing with them. The brightness, the overdrive and MPRT are likely all you’ll ever need to tinker with.

Should I Buy One?

Three display inputs, excellent colour reproduction, an ultra-fast 240Hz refresh rate, a large 27″ 1500R curved panel and a gorgeous design with good ergonomics make this a star product. Cooler Master has really outdone itself with this one, especially if you shop around and find it at a lower price like I did, at least, if there’s any left in stock, as I imagine this monitor is going to be rather popular with gamers!
