The huge heatsink comprised of a widely spaced aluminium fin array and 6 6mm copper heatpipes weighs in at 806g without the fan attached.
With the 25mm deep 120mm fan attached, the Hyper 612S is a very wide CPU cooler which is certain to overhang at least a single DIMM slot.
The 6 copper heatpipes are positioned in a straight line across the heatink with equal spacing between each. Cooler Master claim that this “special” heatpipe layout crosses the CPU hot spot which in turn, enhances cooling performance.
The flat copper base sees Cooler Master moving away from the H.D.T. design that has long been associated with their Hyper series coolers. Hopefully this design change will show the performance benefit that it is theoretically capable of. A huge base heatsink provides additional assistance to the cooling performance and should help direct some airflow towards the nearby VRM heatsinks.
The Cooler Master logo embossed onto the top fin creates an aesthetically appealing design which will be clearly visible when the cooler is installed on your motherboard. The large channel directly behind the fan location allows a build up of positive air pressure, hence reducing the need for a high powered and noisy fan.
Cooler Master seek cooling assistance from heat dissipation enhancements such as fins which aren’t perfectly square, hence increasing the heatsink’s surface area and a wavy shaped pair of top fins which also have a positive effect on the cooler’s appearance.
The translucent bladed Cooler Master branded fan is capable of up to 1300 RPM rotational speed, 52.6 CFM of airflow and 1.14mm H2O of air pressure. Rated for 22.5dbA of noise output, the fan should stay quiet, but one major down side is the use of an all black 3-pin fan connector instead of the more popular and effective 4-pin PWM connection.
