Cooler Master Silencio 550 Chassis Review

InteriorFirstly lets take a look at the inside of one of the sides of the cases. As we can see it has been covered in a sound-proofing material which gives quite an interesting and nearly hypnotic effect. The peaks of this sound proofing is maybe ¾ of an inch thick.

Taking a look at the case from the main side, without the side of the case on, we can see a few things of interest. Firstly, the locking system used to secure the optical drives in, which is similar to other Cooler Master cases and even Bitfenix cases. There are only 2 locking devices as the 3rd bay is already taken up with a 3.5” hard drive dock. There is also no need for them on the other side.

This is a close-up of the back of the 3.5” bay which uses SATA although interestingly it uses the standard molex connector (and not a SATA power connector).

The hard drive bays are both mounted perpendicular to this but the top 5 can be removed for access to the fans. These both use the HDD mounting rails and so do not need any screws or locking devices.

We can also see the motherboard CPU backplate hole, allowing access to the backplate of the motherboard from the other side without removing the motherboard which is brilliant for those of us using various CPU coolers and having the need to constantly change vital components.

Also it is worth noting that there is the usual PSU air intake at the bottom with a removable dust filter which as of late has become much of a standard feature.

Finally we can see the 120mm fan mounted in the usual space at the back of the case, towards the top and believe me when I say there is one at the front as well.

From the other side of the case we can see the hole for the motherboard backplate as well as the holes for ‘cable management’. You can see that due to the orientation of the HDD bays it gives good access to the back of the HDD’s and allows you to hopefully tuck the cables out of sight.

Also note there are no locking devices on this side as they are locked in place firmly from the other side as talked about earlier on.
