Corsair Cancels DDR5 48GB Memory Orders After Pricing Error
The hardware and gaming community did not take kindly to Corsair’s recent decision to cancel a large number of orders for its 48GB DDR5 memory kits. What seemed like a great end-of-year deal quickly turned into a frustrating experience for many customers after the company explained that the discounted prices on its official store were the result of an error.
Reports began circulating on Reddit, where users said they had managed to buy high-end Dominator Titanium RGB kits for around $240 — far below the usual retail price. Shortly after receiving purchase confirmations, customers began receiving cancellation emails from Corsair, citing a “system error” that had caused the incorrect pricing.
Customer Frustration and Failed Compensation
In an attempt to calm the situation, Corsair offered affected buyers a 15% discount code for future purchases. However, this gesture only made things worse. Many users reported that the discount codes had already expired or did not apply to popular items. The frustration grew when customers noticed that the same 48GB memory kits were later relisted at over $500 — more than twice the price of the supposed “deal.”
This left many feeling that Corsair’s response was inadequate and dismissive, especially given the excitement the original listings had generated among PC enthusiasts.
Incidents like this put manufacturers in a difficult position. Legally, most companies reserve the right to cancel orders caused by system or pricing errors, but the damage to a brand’s reputation can be significant. For consumers, it serves as a reminder that when a deal in the hardware world seems too good to be true, it usually is.
