Corsair Carbide 275R Tempered Glass Chassis Review

Final Thoughts

Price

At the time of writing, retail links were not available. However, Corsair is a huge brand and we expect just about every major retailer will be listing stock later today. You can expect to pay £64.99 for either the black or white Carbide 275R with an acrylic side panel. However, if you want the more premium looking tempered glass model we reviewed, it’s just another £10, taking it to £74.99.

Overview

Corsair has played it pretty safe with the Carbide 275R, and that’s no bad thing. They already have a lot of crazy designs and big-budget products. Their latest chassis offers all the usual modern luxuries in a neat and tidy package at a very fair price, and I’m certain it’s going to prove a popular product for them.

Aesthetics

The Carbide series has often been quite understated regarding design but still offers huge potential. I could put a pretty standard system in this, and it would look good. If you place it in an office, it’s not going to look out of place at all. However, throw some extreme hardware in there, chuck in a few lights, maybe some water cooling, and it’ll certainly get the job done. It would look just as good in your gaming room as it would at work, so it’s very versatile. Little touches, like the clean looking front panel, and the large side panel window go a long way.

Build Quality

The 275R gets a lot right in this regard, and the panels are nice and chunky without being too over the top. The inclusion of a PSU cover helps keep things looking neat and tidy while adding some strength too. There are only three cable routing grommets, but they’re all quite thick and durable, and very well placed. The only thing I would improve is the side panel mounts, as thumb screws just make infinitely more sense to me. At least include a tool to open it up, that would have been a great start. (Update: OK, sorry Corsair, I found the tool while reboxing the chassis).

Value

Tempered glass chassis no longer have a terrifying premium, and that’s great because it looks many times better than acrylic for a fair price. The inclusion of two good quality fans certainly adds value here too and provides enough airflow for most mid-range systems. Those who are building more extreme solutions are likely to change them out for water cooling or simply add more fans anyway. Dust filters on the PSU intake, front panel, and the top panel, are also a very welcome addition at this price range.

Pros

  • Durable build quality
  • Dust filters on all intakes
  • PSU shroud
  • All HDD bays are hidden out of sight
  • Good cable routing
  • Durable rubber cable grommets
  • Two fans pre-installed
  • Large side panel window
  • Competitive price
  • Available with glass/acrylic
  • Available in either black or white
  • Good radiator/fan support

Cons

  • Side panel window proved difficult to remove
