Corsair DOMINATOR PLATINUM DDR5 32GB 5200MHz Memory Review

A Closer Look

Now we have the DIMMs out of the box we get to have a proper look at them. The front of the DIMM is clean and a little industrial in design but still looks exactly as you would expect from a DOMINATOR PLATINUM kit but our kit is a first edition kit so we have the addition of a printed label that states this along with a printed number that tells us what sticks we got, we have sticks 17 and 18.

The Back of the DIMM looks almost identical to the front but with the addition of a label that has some information on it about the DIMM

The top of the Ram has ten spots that RGB shines through and a DOMINATOR nameplate that allows RGB to shine through. This is an indication of what to expect the kit to look like in your PC.

The bare DIMM looks very busy due to all the printing on it but it’s very much the same as other DDR5 when we look past that. We can see that this Ram is a single-sided stick that features eight 2GB D-Ram chips and the voltage regulator.

The big change going from DDR4 to DDR5 is the move of the voltage regulator off of the motherboard and onto the Ram itself, here we can see a closer look at it.

Taking a closer look at the D-ram Chip itself reveals to us that it uses Micron ICs with the part number IQA45 D8BNJ ZQRD. Not much is known about these chips as of yet because at the time of writing there isn’t even a page about these chips on Micron’s official website.

Over on the other side of the DIMM, we can see very little, there is a pair of thermal pads that aren’t on any components, I can only assume they are mostly for spacing the heat spreader, and we also see how the RGB connects to the memory.

The RGB of the kit connects to the memory through a ribbon cable which I find interesting because the LEDs are their own individual part of the memory instead of being soldered directly to the PCB.

To finish up the closer look section I’ve got a set of photos showing how the Ram looks lit up. The LEDs are very bright and have a lot of colour to them, and if you like the design would look very good in your PC.
