Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 32GB 3600 MHz DDR4 Memory Review

How Much Does It Cost?

I don’t have the exact price on this kit right now as the launch is flying a little under the radar with Computex 2020 no longer going ahead, and lockdown issues. However, it should start hitting retailers later today. The black kit is currently £186 for 2 x 8GB and £312 for 4 x 8GB. I expect this new kit may have a small premium over that, but I would otherwise expect prices to be about the same.

Overview

There’s no shortage of amazing looking memory kits on the market these days. Every brand has something pretty special in their range and Corsair is no exception. Sure, it’s all a very subjective thing, but I think the Dominator Platinum is the best-looking memory kit series out there. It’s ultra-stylish and grabs your attention, but somehow manages to still look understated and professional too; not an easy double act to pull off.

Speed

With 3600 MHz XMP, this is a pretty fast memory kit. Sure, there are the faster enthusiast overclocking kits out there, but as with anything, the speeds you get are heavily defined by your motherboard and your CPU usage too. On the bright side though, even a simple approach to overclocking got 4000 MHz out of this kit on an i9-9900K. A bit of extra airflow, a few more volts and some fettling of the timings and I’m confident it’ll go more. Of course, I doubt many people will need to as even at XMP we were getting really fantastic performance.

Build Quality

This is what’s leading the pack for me, as the overall construction, materials fit and finish of this kit is simply outstanding. The gold trim, the black PCB, the pure white and lightly textured metal heatsinks. It all screams premium product and with Corsair also having their white AIOs, PC cases, peripherals , etc, I’m sure the Corsair fan-base is going to go nuts for this new addition to the range.

Should I Buy Them?

This is more memory kit than most people need, a simple set of 3200 MHz Vengeance is a hell of a lot cheaper and delivers perfectly good performance for your typical gaming PC build. However, if you really want to squeeze the last drops of performance from your system, and you don’t mind paying a premium for those top-tier looks and premium build quality, the Dominator Platinum series is as good as it gets.
