Corsair Gaming Scimitar RGB Gaming Mouse Review

A Closer Look

The Scimitar comes hard-wired with a braided USB cable and a custom shaped USB header that colour matches the rest of the mouse.

The mouse has a pretty unique ergonomic shape, and obviously it has that unique side panel control with 12 mechanical switches on the left side.

Two of the rows are smooth and two have a light texture to them, this doesn’t seem like a huge difference, but it makes it a whole lot easier to tell exactly where your thumb is without having to look at the switches. Not going to lie, it takes some getting used to, but once your thumb learns the shape of the keypad, it’s like touch-typing with a mouse.

The right side of the mouse has a pretty strange shape, which benefits palm-rest play styles greatly, as it allows for a completely relaxed grip over the mouse without the loss of control.

The wider section towards the front allows your fingers to rest on the light grip surface, giving you extra control. I personally have wide hands and I find it extremely comfortable to use the Scimitar, even after many long hours of gaming. The way the mouse is shaped benefits those with smaller hands too, it’s perfect for anyone who prefers a palm-rest grip.

You can see how the mouse slopes down to the right, giving your hand a slightly off to the side profile, which eases some of the strain on your wrist too, the only downside is that you’re going to have a bad time trying to use this mouse with your left hand, it’s obviously for right-hand use only. The scroll-wheel is huge, but heavily recessed into the body of the mouse, giving you excellent control and the deeply grooved rubber grip coating is a welcome addition.

Still not content with the ergonomics? There’s a little tool included to help you tweak it a little further.

Insert it into the Allen Key slot on the base of the mouse and loosen it up a little bit, and you’ll be able to adjust the position of the side panel controls.

You can move the key pad any amount from front to back to suit your hand size or personal preference. I have set it at the back, middle and the front just to demonstrate how far it can be moved.

Back is great for those with smaller hands.

Middle is usable for money, for me it allows my thumb to reach the 10, 11, 12, buttons much easier.

Front, this was perfect for my hand size, of course, you’re own preference may be different. What I do like is that the backplate is brushed aluminium, it doesn’t need to be, but it looks lovely.

The base of the mouse is super smooth and features four large slipmats to give is excellent glide. The smooth glide, both on cloth and soft mat surfaces is helped in no small part by the lightweight design of the mouse.
