Corsair K95 RGB Platinum XT Keyboard Review

How Much Does it Cost?

Unfortunately, at the time of writing this keyboard wasn’t even known to the public and is expected to launch at CES 2020. By the time you’re reading this, I’ll likely be in the press conference for the reveal of this keyboard and more, so stay tuned, I’ll update this ASAP. However, as the Corsair flagship keyboard, it’ll most likely be a wad of cash around the £150-200 region.

Overview

My opinions on this keyboard really haven’t changed all that much in the last three years. When I first reviewed the K95, I thought it was one of the finest mechanical keyboards you can buy. Even after a few years, that is still absolutely true. Is it better than those from other brands? That’s pretty subjective, but I can’t fault the attention to detail and quality here.

Precision

Corsair hasn’t just built their reputation on RGB technology, although it’s certainly become the rainbow icing on their rather large cake. At its core, the K95 RGB Platinum XT is an exceptionally well-made keyboard. The aluminium top panel design is superb, and I love how that wrist rest sits slightly over it to give it a more uniform appearance.

Of course, the keys are Cherry MX, so you know you’re getting quality there. Plus, with a choice of switch types, you’ll be able to grab the version that best suits your needs.

Durable

This keyboard is pretty heavy. If you’re looking for a keyboard to take to your friend’s house or LAN every week, this isn’t it. The cable is pretty chunky and hard-wired, and the wrist rest is best left on or off, rather than changing it all the time. This is a big keyboard designed to stay at home and get some serious work and gaming done.

Elgato

We’ve got a few Elgato products that we use in our YouTube studio, they’re fantastic for what we do. Do I need that functionality on my keyboard? I’m not so sure, but I can appreciate that there is a market for it. If you do a lot of game streaming, taking your hands away from the keyboard to use your StreamDeck isn’t always viable. Having them within pinky-finger reach on the K95 XT can be a pretty handy tool though. I’d love to see Corsair give us the mini display buttons on a keyboard though, that would be neat!

Should I Buy One?

If you have the older K95, this isn’t much of an upgrade. However, for those looking to buy a high-end mechanical keyboard that’s loaded with features, the K95 was the best years ago, and even today, it still is.
