Efficiency

As this is an 80-Plus Gold Certified power supply, it clearly has a rather significant level of efficiency performance to provide. Put simply, the power supply must perform at a minimum of 88% at full and low output while 92% at medium.

So, how did the RM650 do? Well, the short answer is amazingly!

While the mid-level performance is exactly that as expected from the efficiency rating, the real highlight is the performance at the high and low levels. Achieving around 94% efficiency at low performance is remarkably good. In addition, managing to stay above 90% at full throttle is also equally impressive. These are, in their most basic terms, figures more expected from Platinum or Titanium graded power supplies. So in terms of efficiency, the Corsair RM650 gets a huge tick in the box!

PFC (Power Factor Correction)

The PFC test looks to determine how much of the power that goes into it from the mains actually comes out. As you may be aware, there is often some ‘drop out’ particularly as it is converted into the various voltages a PC requires.

Similar to the efficiency ratings, however, the Corsair RM650 again proves to be much better than expected. As you can see in the results below, it gave an exceptionally consistent, and more notably, also a very high level of performance.

Voltage Regulation

The voltage regulation through the various channels shows again that this is an exceptionally well designed power supply. Throughout our range of testing very little deviancy was found and even then, it was well below the ‘normal’ levels expected.

A particular highlight was both the 5V and 3.3V rails which showed (nearly) no variance at all. That shouldn’t detract from the 12V rail either which showed exceptionally solid results.

All in all, so far this is shaping up to be a very impressive power supply indeed!
