We are certainly strong advocates here at eTeknix for people to not go for the cheapest power supply model they can find when building a PC. Given its overall importance, and the fact that a good PSU can potentially last for many years (and several different builds), they should always be considered more of an investment than a purchase. – When it comes to Cougar, however, we often find that the company is well capable of striking an excellent balance between price, performance, and functionality. And with the launch of their new Auric Series of power supplies, these definitely seem to warrant some attention!
With both 650w and 750 power output variants available, the Cougar Auris power supplies carry a (perhaps surprisingly) decent specification. Such key features include; 80 Plus Gold efficiency, a fully modular cable design, RGB LED illuminated fan (with compatibility available for ARGB functionality), and a hybrid mode fan function.
Put simply, this pretty much ticks all the right boxes every good (and savvy) power supply consumer should have. And given that this is a Cougar product, we don’t expect this to be too damaging to your bank balance either!
“AURIC is the first high-quality ARGB PSU of COUGAR which is 80-Plus Gold certified and provides all tough strengths that a high-end PSU needs. And it also supports different lighting modes and synchronization with compatible RGB motherboard brands, the 0-db mode will get an optimal balance between noise and performance. With these strengths, the AURIC can meet and even exceed the demanding specification of gaming user.”
At the time of writing, Cougar has not confirmed and specific prices nor regional release dates for their new Auric series power supplies. We would, however, expect them to be available within the next few weeks and probably for less than £80 which, for a power supply packing this many features, would certainly represent some excellent value for money.
