The VLC Media Player is probably known and loved by most people. It’s powerful yet simple and can play pretty much any codec without additional installations. We can also run this wonderful app directly on our Thecus NAS and use it to play movies and other videos directly on our TV via the DisplayPort or HDMI output.
VLC is as simple as selecting and loading the files into a playlist and hit the play button. There isn’t much that needs to be said to VLC. You can control it with ease from Android and iOS apps too as there are plenty of VLC remote apps out there. VLC also has a web user interface built in which can be accessed by any browser if set up.
Here’s a shot of my little test playlist. We see that it looks the same way that VLC looks on any other Linux or Windows device.
