Crucial Ballistix Sport LT Memory Kit Review

Final Thoughts

Pricing (accurate at the time of writing)

Crucial’s Ballistix Sport LT 16GB 2400MHz memory kit isn’t currently available to purchase from some retailers, but Crucial offer the memory kit on their UK website for £175.19 and their US website for $219.99. Crucial’s Ballistix Sport LT memory kit comes with a limited lifetime warranty which is fulfilled by Crucial, but certain retailers may offer a replacement such as OverclockersUK; so check with the retailers first. The Ballistix Sport LT Range will be available in 4GB and 8GB modules and will be on sale as singles, dual channel and quad channel kits ranging from 4GB to 32GB.

Summary

It’s nice to see a company take a respectable product from their line-up and make adjustments to make it more aesthetically pleasing and give it a more premium look.

This kit looks great, possibly what the original Sport range should have looked like; with taller, hugging heatsinks instead of the 2 strips of metal. The all black PCB really contrasts against the silver design, giving it a nicer look that would fit in with a lot of system builds. Performance wise, the kit tested very well for its estimated price. It gave the likes of Corsair and G-Skill a run for their money in some tests, which isn’t bad a for a 2400MHz set.

This kit is perfectly placed in terms of price and performance, it isn’t going to appeal to the extreme overclockers, but this should be a good base kit for new X99 users to choose. Luckily with the way that RAM has gone over the last few years, heatsinks have shrunk as there is less heat to deal with, allowing the use of larger CPU coolers, something helpful when considering some of the higher X99 CPU’s like the i7-5960X.

Pros

  • Low profile design
  • Lifetime warranty
  • Multiple capacity options

Cons

  • Overclocking was limited

“Crucial Ballistix Sport LT memory kit is the kit to go for if you are on a budget, great looks with rock solid performance out of the box.”
