Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer RGB 32GB 3000MHz DDR4 Review

Final Thoughts

Price

The DDR4 memory market is a bit of a mess at the moment, with crazy high prices and limited stock. Most memory kits we review rarely seem to be available at popular retailers. However, Crucial do sell directly on their website. Again, while it was in stock over the last few days, it was sold out again before publishing this review. Hopefully, that will improve soon. At £447.59 (inc VAT), a 32GB is a bit of out of the price range of a lot of consumers, but it is still (surprisingly) a competitive price for a kit of this speed and capacity.

Overview

I’m a big fan of Crucial memory products, as are the rest of the eTeknix team, and we’ve been using their products in all of our test benches for reviews for quite some time now, as they’re reliable and consistent across a wide range of system types. The same is true of the new Ballistix Tactical Tracer RGB. Performance has undoubtedly come first here, and the RGB is just a welcome treat to keep up with market trends.

RGB?

I know it’s a bit of a pointless add-on for some of our readers. However, the Tracer has some truly gorgeous colours and may even be some of the brightest RGB memory I’ve seen in quite a while. The fact that it supports pretty much every major RGB lighting engine is a big boost too. Of course, the best part is that it doesn’t use those ugly RGB cables that can be a nightmare to route.

Overclocking

I’m sure the eager enthusiast could push some higher speeds from this memory. The heat spreaders work well despite their lower profile. Of course, those wanting to drive to the extremes may want to start with a faster kit and larger heatspreaders anyway. However, for your average Joe, being able to dial in 3333 and above with just a basic tweak in the BIOS is just free performance right out of the box.

Quality

With decades of experience building every component of their memory modules, we have absolute confidence in the quality of the new Ballistix range. Everything from the PCB to the RGB looks like a quality product, and that’s reflected in the performance. Of course, having that backed up by a lifetime warranty adds real peace of mind for any consumer.
