Crucial MX200 250GB Solid State Drive Review

Final Thoughts

Pricing

Despite being a great performing SSD, the Crucial MX200 250GB won’t cost you an arm and a leg. In the UK you can find it at Aria for £101.94, Scan Computers for £107.10, Amazon for £118.85, and Overclockers UK for £109.99. US readers can pick one up at NewEgg for $139.99 or Amazon for $133.99, while German readers can find it starting from €129.29.

Conclusion

The Crucial MX200 has the same simple optics and design as we’re used to from their previous series. We find a sticker on the top of the drive containing the Crucial logo with SSD-Series graphics in the background. On the bottom of the drive is another sticker with all the relevant information in one place and easy to read.

Inside the drive, we saw that everything was located on a single side of the PCB, something that’s quite normal for the smallest size of SSD in a series. There isn’t much to say to about it, except that it’s all well picked components that should ensure a long lifetime.

The performance was great in the MX200 250GB. The drive performed equally well with compressible and incompressible data as promised. We saw performance figures up to 560MB/s reading and 500MB/s writing from start till the end of the benchmarks.

Taking those performance figures and pair them with the offered feature set of protection, hardware encryption, reliability and warranty, then it is safe to say that you can’t do much wrong when buying this drive. In fact, I would highly recommend it and it would be a great boot drive in any system.

Pros

  • Equally fast on all levels – up to 555MB/s read and 500MB/s write
  • Reliable through great endurance rating
  • Good price per GB
  • Cloning software and 9.5mm adapter included
  • Features: Redundant Array of Independent NAND, Adaptive Thermal Protection, ECC, and more.

Neutral

  • No 3.5-inch adapter

“Crucial MX200 is a well-created drive with a combination of impressive features and speeds. The 250GB model performed with equal figures throughout all the benchmarks.”
