Pricing and Availability
The MX500 1TB SSD of Crucial’s has only just launched, but that doesn’t mean that the price has to be high. At the time of this review, it can be yours for £233.99 via Amazon. That is a really small price for a 1TB drive and I remember paying double for my first SSD of this capacity. In fact, it is so cheap that I had to verify with Crucial that the MX500 wouldn’t end up axing the BX series. Despite the low price point of the MX500, the BX series will continue as a budget series.
I always have high expectations when testing a Crucial drive simply because I have gotten used to it. The drives are engineered well from start to end and deliver what they promise. The MX500 with 1TB capacity which I tested today was no different. We saw an excellent performance through and through. Not only is it a step up from predecessor, the drive also tends among the top of the charts. Especially the write performance is a place where the drive shines as bright as a sun. Most TLC-based drives suffer a huge write performance impact during continuous writes, but not so with the MX500. The Dynamic Write Acceleration works better than ever and delivers a consistent performance we haven’t seen from this type of drives in the past.
The MX500 is packed with features, both basic and advanced. The most impressive is probably the power-loss protection without the need for capacitors. Micron’s latest 3D NAND doesn’t just improve capacity and performance, it also adds integrated circuitry takes care of your data in the event of a sudden power loss, and more.
The new installation guides will help you install the drive, that is if you need help with that. It covers everything from the hardware installation to data migration. Everything is rounded off with a great endurance rating and long warranty.
Overall, the MX500 comes with everything you’ll want from a drive such as this – and a little more.
- Latest Micron 3D NAND technology
- Large capacity options
- Plenty of features, including NAND-integrated power-loss protection
- Impressive performance
- Low asking price
- Hardware-based encryption with AES 256-bit
- 5-year warranty
“Crucial shows everyone how a SATA3 SSD should be created in 2017. The MX500 simply delivers performance and features.”
