Stock clocks proved trouble for the R1 Ultimate, clocking in at +25c, which is on part with many high-end water coolers, not bad at all.
Overclocking performance is simply amazing, although, given the size of the cooler, it’s not surprising. Beating out the Dark Rock Pro 3 by a few degrees, and only the Noctua NH-D15S can beat it in terms of air cooling performance.
It may have be quiet! beaten in cooling performance, but as quiet as the Ultimate is, it’s still no match for the Noctua and be quiet! ranges. Don’t get me wrong though, the Ultimate is unlikely to get your attention at these volume levels.
The Ultimate maxed out at 43dBa when pushed hard, but that’s still a pretty decent result overall and not something I would see as a problem. Given the stellar performance, you could easily dial back your fan profile a little to keep a nice balance of overclocking performance and acoustic performance with relative ease.
