With the massive success of PlayerUnknown’s BattleGrounds, every other game company is trying to join in on the Battle Royale bandwagon. Now Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is the latest to join with an upcoming “Survival mode”. Although the details of this new mode have been around since last year, details are starting to emerge. As the picture becomes clearer, it is actually starting to sound like a PUBG clone. Or maybe it did not start out that way, but eventually shifted towards that.
According to Valve News Network via VG247, the clues are around, spotted in CS:GO patches as early as May 2016. That is well beyond the launch date of PUBG, but does not predate the DayZ: Battle Royale mod. Valve News Network has collected all the clues so far, and aside from lots of references to ‘survival’, many of the elements smell too close to PUBG. This includes adrenaline shots, compound bows, breach charges, sonar pulses, hand-to-hand combat and more. Development is also taking some time since this has been going on for a while. So this update is going to be massive, and possibly redefine the old game completely.
Whether this Survival Mode actually means a battle royale style game mode is hardly surprising. In fact, it is more surprising if Valve does not implement it. Considering CS:GO already has the large user base to start, they can actually rival PUBG for dominance in the charts. Plus, it won’t run like a slog on most systems.
