CyberPowerPC Ultra R9959 Gaming System Review

The AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D launched just a few days ago (review here), offering a 400MHz boost over its predecessor. We reached out to CyberPowerPC to get a system to look at, based on what a consumer can get for their money, especially during a time where the market is a little rocky due to the DRAM situation which is also affecting other components slowly but surely. They graced us with a fully-fledged system that hits that top-tier gaming spec, featuring that newly released CPU and RTX 5090 combination in a very interesting looking case.

While I am under no illusion that this system is not within reach for everyone due to its £4699 price tag, it is a perfect example of what is possible with the latest and greatest parts available on the market for extreme level gamers and enthusiasts who want the very best, with nothing else getting in their way.

Ultra R9959

While all systems purchased from CyberPowerPC are fully configurable, the spec that we have here goes with the no-holds-barred, no-expense-spared approach, utilising parts with the latest architecture from the CPU and GPU, all the way down to the memory and storage.

In a time where prices for individual components are extremely volatile, buying a pre-built system can now often be seen as a saving grace where certain components were acquired before the pricing storm had even started.

Custom Configuration

While this system came with a set spec, the joy of buying from a system integrator like CyberPowerPC means that you get full flexibility over the specs and the components. With their configurator, you are able to customise all parts from the CPU, GPU, memory, storage, and even the case to fit your budget and needs better.

AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D & RTX 5090

If you are a gamer who demands the very best performance, the new holy grail comes down to the newest Ryzen 7 X3D based processor and NVIDIA’s Blackwell based powerhouse, the RTX 5090. For those not in the loop, what you get here is an 8 core, 16 thread CPU with a staggering 96MB of L3 cache due to its vertical cache stacking technology which does wonders for increasing framerates and smoothing out those all-important 1% lows.

On top of that, you are getting the flagship RTX 5090 at your disposal with the latest Blackwell architecture and a whopping 32GB of GDDR7 memory. No matter if you are gaming or using the system for workload related productivity tasks, you are not being held back by your GPU. With CUDA acceleration prevalent in so many applications, it can make a huge difference in tasks that can utilise it.

Beyond that, we are graced with 32GB of Kingston Fury Beast RGB Black 6000MHz CL36 memory, a 2TB Kingston Fury Renegade G5 Gen 5 SSD, and everything is powered by a Corsair HX1500i power supply. We are looking at top-tier brands with quality rated products, but this PC isn’t just about substance, as it has a pretty funky style element to it too thanks to the HYTE X50 case in Taro Milk colour, along with a quad-pack of HYTE FA12 120mm fans, again finished in Taro Milk colour.

Warranty

As always with CyberPowerPC, the warranty is one of the best on the market. With that, you get 5 years labour, 2 years parts, and a 12-month collect and return warranty, along with life-time technical support. This gives you extra peace of mind, regardless of whether you are a novice who doesn’t possess the knowledge, or an enthusiast who does have the knowledge but wants a little extra support from a PC, along with saving the time and hassle of building a system yourself and navigating the market at the moment with DDR memory prices fluctuating so much.

Performance Expectations

With a specification list that reads like an enthusiast’s wish list, the expectations for the Ultra R9959 are naturally sky-high. The combination of the Ryzen 7 9850X3D and the RTX 5090 is primarily designed for those chasing high frame rates with settings cranked to the max and every feature turned on.

We expect it to chew up everything that is thrown at it, even at 4K native. This is the sort of hardware where enabling full Path Tracing in titles like Cyberpunk 2077 or Alan Wake 2 should no longer feel like a compromise where upscaling is needed just to maintain playable framerates. While the Blackwell architecture has DLSS and frame generation for those who want the highest framerates possible, not everyone is sold on the technology, and a system of this calibre gives you choices as to whether you enable it or keep it turned off.

On the CPU side, the new Ryzen 7 9850X3D is the critical piece of the puzzle. At 1440p and 4K, powerful GPUs can sometimes find themselves waiting on the processor. The V-Cache technology and the 400MHz clock speed bump over the previous generation should ensure that doesn’t happen, and that the GPU remains fed with data, keeping its usage high. This combination is vital for maintaining those 1% low figures, which are often more important for the feeling of smoothness than the average framerate itself.

The inclusion of the Kingston Fury Renegade Gen 5 SSD means we are looking for instantaneous asset streaming. In modern titles that utilise DirectStorage, this drive should virtually eliminate load times and pop-in, ensuring that the immersion provided by the high-end graphics remains unbroken.

All in, no matter what we throw at this system, it should be able to handle it with ease, and that is what you are essentially paying for. No compromises.
