Cyberpunk 2077 Bombs Down the Sales Charts

CD Projekt RED Denies Rumours of Two Other Cyberpunk Games

Ever since the release of Cyberpunk 2077 on December 10th, it’s (largely) been nothing but bad news for CD Projekt Red. While most of the problems have largely revolved around the games poor performance/optimization issues, particularly on the PS4 and Xbox One, it can’t be ignored that things took a new and considerably worse turn over just the last few days when, following a successful cyberattack, the source code for Cyberpunk 2077 (as well as The Witcher 3) had been stolen (it has since transpired that it may have already have been sold on the Darkweb for around $7m.).

Well, in something that’ll undoubtedly not make them any happier, following a report via Kotaku, it has been confirmed that after hitting the #2 spot in the December gaming sales charts, over January it has since bombed to #18.

Cyberpunk 2077 Requires at Least 80GB of Storage Space

Cyberpunk 2077

Following the release of the latest sales figures, it will perhaps come as more than a little surprise to many to see that Cyberpunk 2077 has nosedived exceptionally quickly in terms of popularity. Where many might have expected this to easily be a best seller for several months, if this trend continues, it looks more than likely that it won’t even be able to keep in the top 20 before the end of February.

  1. Call of Duty: Black Ops: Cold War
  2. Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla
  3. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
  4. Madden NFL 21
  5. Animal Crossing: New Horizons
  6. Mario Kart 8: Deluxe
  7. Ring Fit Adventure
  8. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
  9. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
  10. NBA 2K21
  11. Super Mario 3D All-Stars
  12. FIFA 21
  13. Immortals: Fenyx Rising
  14. Mortal Kombat 11
  15. Just Dance 2021

What Do We Think?

There is a pretty significant caveat that has to be provided to this list and news in general. Namely, that the chart above (at least in terms of Cyberpunk 2077) only includes physical sales. This is because CD Projekt Red chooses not to disclose digital purchases and, as such, in reality, it is almost certainly quite a bit higher up in the charts than this would truly represent.

Given that the prior December gaming sales chart was based on these criteria as well, however, overall, it doesn’t bode well for the long or even medium-term success of Cyberpunk 2077. Put simply, a GTA V killer (at least in copies sold) this is 100% not!
