Cyberpunk 2077’s Disastrous Launch Was Actually a Good Thing, According to CD Projekt RED
As many of you know, Cyberpunk 2077 was released in a condition far from ideal. However, according to CD Projekt RED, this wasn’t entirely a bad thing. In fact, in some ways, they believe it was better that it happened this way, because it allowed the game to become the success it is today.
This information comes from Charles Tremblay, Senior Vice President of CD Projekt RED’s technology division, who spoke with The Mirror.
Why the Rough Start Helped the Game Improve
Tremblay explained, “At the end side, if you think about it, if the success of the game would have been what we originally expected, would it be the same game that we’re playing today? I don’t think so.”
He continued, “Which is weird when you think about it because of all the problems that we had, but then basically we ended up pushing so much energy in this game and I think now it’s a much, much better game that it would not have probably been otherwise, so I’m pretty happy about the result. I think this game will pass the test of time.”
A Game That Evolved Through Pressure
What Tremblay means is that if the game had met expectations at launch, CD Projekt RED might not have been pushed to improve it so much. Their determination and commitment to the project ended up making the game stronger. Without that pressure, Cyberpunk 2077 might have ended up as a worse game than it is now. Of course, this is all just speculation.
In other news, CD Projekt Red admits pressure as they develop The Witcher 4, facing high expectations to top the legendary success of The Witcher 3.
