D-Link DCS-2630L Full HD 180-Degree Wi-Fi Camera Review

Conclusion and Pricing

Pricing

At the time of writing, the D-Link DCS-2630L Full HD 180-Degree Wi-Fi Camera can be found at NewEgg for $159.99, $90 of the normal price of $249.00. I couldn’t find it listed at any European retailers yet.

Conclusion

The D-Link DCS-2630L is both a compact and good looking Wi-Fi camera that is as easy to place as it has mounting and adjustment options. It stands firmly on its stand at all angles and can also be mounted directly onto a wall. You can turn the camera itself around the stand so the video isn’t on top if mounted at a weird angle and the stand also rotates and angles.

With built-in speaker and microphone, the DCS-2630L also allows you to enter a 2-way communication, this could, for example, be to calm your pet down or talk to the kids that just got home from school. The high-quality CMOS sensor provides crystal clear full HD videos at both night and day times. The IR functionality allows it to record in darkness with as little as 0 lux lighting.

You can enable motion and audio detection to trigger the recording and save the results locally on an SD card with a capacity up to 128GB, you can have the camera email clips and snapshot, or have it upload it all to an FTP server of your choice. It features 8x digital zoom and an impressive 182-degree wide-view lens without warping.

The network connection is easily set up with the built-in WPS functionality, but it also works easily without thanks to the built-in web service and wifi hotspot functionality. It supports dual-band WiFi, so it doesn’t matter whether you want to use the faster 5GHz band or the further reaching 2.4GHz band. The camera supports it. For this review, I only used to 2.4GHz band to test whether that would create any bottlenecks or limit the functionality – which it didn’t.

The D-Link DCS-2630L might not be the cheapest WiFi camera available, but it is definitely the best choice in the market segment and one that I’d highly recommend.

Pros

  • Full HD 1080p video
  • Motion and Sound detection
  • 2-way audio
  • Web and Android/iOS/Windows Mobile usage
  • Built-in SD card slot
  • FTP and Email upload
  • Versatile placement options

Cons

  • Not the cheapest WiFi camera around

“D-Link’s DCS-2630L is the best WiFi camera I’ve seen. It provides clear Full-HD videos at day and night with the ability to store them directly to an SD card or upload them to a remote location.”
