D-Link DIR-880L Wireless AC1900 Dual-Band Gigabit Cloud Router Review

Final Thoughts

Pricing

D-Link created a great performing router that doesn’t cost as much as you might expect. At the time of writing, the DIR-880L Cloud router can be had for just $162.99 at NewEgg, £104.99 at Overclockers UK, and starting from €142.99 through Geizhals.

Conclusion

I had really looked forward to this test as it has been quite some time since I had the pleasure to use any of D-Link’s products and their DIR-880L Wireless AC1900 Dual Band Gigabit Cloud Router did not disappoint. The glossy black router looks great and comes with everything you could want from a modern router.

The graphical user interface isn’t just easy to use on your PC, it works equally great on your smartphone or tablet thanks to the touch-optimized design. If you still shouldn’t like it or want something more, then you’re in luck too as the router is DD-WRT supportive.

The wireless signals are covered by both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz band for a total speed of up to 1900 Mbps (600 + 1300).  The advanced beamforming technology gives that extra bit of performance and allows the signal to penetrate even the furthest corners of your apartment. The Band Steering directs to less crowded 5GHz band. Both the WAN and LAN ports are full Gigabit Ethernet so you won’t experience any throttling here, even if you have one of the fast internet connection that exceed the 100Mbps marker.

The USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports allow you to connect storage directly to the router and share it over the network while the mydlink feature allows you to easily connect securely from anywhere. You can create extra users and define their rights, so you don’t have to worry when handing out the connection data to friends and family.

Security is well covered with rule sets, scheduling, black and white lists, VLAN tunneling and much more. Virtual servers, IP forwarding, and dynamic DNS setups aren’t any problem either.

“The D-Link DIR-880L Dual Band Cloud router combines the best in one package, makes it as easy as possible to use, and sells it at a really good price.”
