D-link announced many new networking products today but a gaming router in a cylindrical shaped case with a Qualcomm StreamBoost Technology (DGL-5500) chip was the highlight.
This unit is an 802.11 ac wireless router with QOS controls specifically for gaming and smooth streaming video playback.
The VP of D-Link Systems, Inc. stated that with Qualcomm’s technology, the router optimizes a home network for games that you want to play, when you want to play them. The company also says that “lag time, buffering and failed downloads are a thing of the past”.
The router comes with 4 “True Gigabit” Ethernet ports, dual band antennas for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz with a high powered amplifier and other standard router features such as VPN Passthrough, UPnP support, WPS, etc.
D-link didn’t mention any price for this unit but it will be available in Spring 2013 and will probably be expensive!
