DDR5 RAM Prices Fall After Months of Steady Increases
The DDR5 RAM market is finally seeing a price drop after months of steady increases. Prices have recorded their first fall in a long time. In some cases, the drop reaches up to $100 per kit at stores such as Amazon and Newegg, offering welcome relief for users looking to upgrade or build new systems.
The main reason behind these sudden price cuts appears to be linked to Google’s introduction of TurboQuant. This new compression technology promises to reduce memory requirements for AI workloads by up to six times. The announcement has already sparked discussion across the industry and even caused shares of companies such as Micron and SK hynix to fall.
DDR5 Kits Get Price Cuts of Up to $100 on Amazon and Newegg
There is speculation that, due to concerns about lower long-term demand, retailers have started clearing out DDR5 memory stock, and this trend has already begun at some of the largest online stores in the market.
At the moment, the biggest price drops can be seen in Corsair products. For example, 32 GB kits (2×16 GB) running at 6400 MHz, which previously came close to $490, are now available for around $379.99 on stores like Amazon and Newegg.
Other 16 GB models running at 5200 MHz have also fallen from around $260 to levels closer to $220. While Corsair is leading these discounts, brands such as Patriot have also reduced their prices, with products now selling in the $220 to $370 range.
Although experts are still debating whether the effect of TurboQuant will be permanent or whether supply shortages could push prices up again, these discounts present a small opportunity for users who were considering upgrading their systems with more memory or moving their PCs to modern DDR5 platforms.
