DDR5 RAM Resale Bots Now Generate 91% of a Retailer’s Traffic
The current RAM situation has been caused by the huge amount of memory required by artificial intelligence companies. However, the problem is getting worse because of resale bots, which now account for 91% of DDR5 RAM searches, according to DataDome.
These resale bots search for DDR5 RAM stock every 6.5 seconds.
The study was published by DataDome Vice President Jérôme Segura in a post on his LinkedIn profile. He confirmed that RAM searches are now almost completely filled with traffic from resale bots. Last March, the company found that there were 6 searches from these bots for every legitimate search from a user. The situation has now become even worse.
DDR5 RAM Buyers Face Growing Pressure as Resale Bots Flood Retailer Searches
According to the new analysis published by DataDome (thanks VideoCardz), the figure is now close to 10 bot searches for every 1 legitimate search. These bots are very aggressive when checking available stock. The company said that, during a period of one hour, a total of 50,000 requests across 91 product listings were recorded. This means each listing received an average of 551 requests, equal to one search every 6.5 seconds.
The graph shown above comes from just one retailer. This does not mean it represents what is happening across the entire market, but it gives an idea of how these bots are making it even harder for regular users to buy these types of components.
In fact, gamers are not the only ones being affected. According to the study, these bots search for all types of memory. They automate traffic to suppliers such as Micron, Apacer, Amphenol and TE Connectivity, meaning they target all kinds of companies connected to RAM.
The solution is difficult because it depends on retailers having systems that can identify and block these types of bots. Some retailers already use these systems, but even then, it is impossible to control them 100%.
