Death Stranding 2 Title Update 1.4 Released

Hideo Kojima Has Written the Concept for Death Stranding 3 But Doesn’t Want to Make It Himself

Kojima Productions and Nixxes Software have released a fresh update for the PC version of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. Following its successful launch on Steam and the Epic Games Store last month, the development team has been quick to iterate on player feedback, with Patch 1.4 focusing heavily on technical refinement and visual consistency.

The latest patch introduces several quality-of-life improvements for those navigating the rugged landscapes of Australia. A primary focus of this update is the refinement of upscaling technologies. Players using AMD FSR or Intel XeSS will notice that frame generation now correctly accounts for vignetting during frame interpolation, resolving a visual discrepancy that previously hampered immersion. Furthermore, the range of sharpness control for upscaling has been expanded, allowing for much finer tuning based on individual monitor setups and personal preference.

Texture quality has also received a boost, particularly for those running the game on more modest hardware. Kojima Productions noted that they have “improved image quality for various textures when Texture Quality is set to Medium or lower,” which should provide a much cleaner look for players who aren’t pushing the “Very High” or Ray Tracing presets.

Technical Fixes and UI Enhancements

Beyond the visual tweaks, Patch 1.4 addresses several stability issues. The team has “fixed various rare crashes and implemented additional stability improvements” to ensure a smoother experience during long delivery hauls. Social features have also been touched upon, with Steam users now able to see a greater variety of user avatars through the Social Strand Service.

One of the more specific fixes targets a graphical bug involving the game’s water physics. Previously, players using frame generation might have noticed oddities in how water behaved when building a Hot Spring; this has now been resolved.

Key Updates

  • Improved Upscaling: Expanded sharpness control and vignetting fixes for FSR and XeSS.
  • Enhanced Textures: Better visual fidelity for the Medium and Low texture presets.
  • Social Strand Updates: Increased visibility for Steam user avatars.
  • Stability: Resolutions for rare crashes and general performance bugs.
  • Graphical Polish: Fixed flowing water issues at Hot Springs when using frame generation and various UI bugs.
