Death Stranding Movie Will Be “Strange and Unbelievable,” Says Hideo Kojima
A Death Stranding movie is currently being made by A24, and Hideo Kojima recently talked about this movie adaptation. He didn’t give many details but made it clear that he is very excited about the project, calling it a “strange and unbelievable” film.
We can easily believe him, especially considering that the original game is far from ordinary, and the fact that A24 is involved—known for producing unique films—suggests this movie will definitely be something special in the world of cinema.
It’s a bit surprising that, despite his passion for directing, Kojima is not directly overseeing the movie’s production. However, he has many other video game projects to manage, including Death Stranding 2, which makes his lack of direct involvement understandable.
Kojima’s High Regard for Director Michael Sarnoski
In a recent episode of his podcast “Koji10,” Kojima shared a few thoughts about the movie. Although he kept details vague, he praised director Michael Sarnoski, who will be directing the film. Kojima said, The live-action adaptation of Death Stranding by A24 will be an unbelievable and strange film. He also mentioned that Sarnoski is “smart, has good taste and is a very nice person,” showing that he’s happy with the director’s involvement.
Kojima also revealed that Sarnoski had played Death Stranding and Metal Gear Solid 1, and was about to play MGS2 and MGS3. However, Kojima said he “stopped him” at that point, possibly to keep the director’s vision more personal or to avoid any unnecessary influences from the games.
Kojima also noted that Sarnoski “doesn’t seem like a typical Hollywood person,” which seems like a compliment in this context. Interestingly, Kojima has previously said that he always saw Death Stranding only as a game, so the idea of it being turned into a movie is surprising to him in some ways.
