Since the second trailer for Death Stranding came out a few days ago, everyone’s been talking about Hideo Kojima’s upcoming masterpiece, and we’re here to give you a few more details about the technologies used in its creation. Sources indicate that the game will be based on the Decima Engine from Guerrilla Games, which also powers titles such as Horizon Zero Dawn and Killzone Shadow Fall. Furthermore, it looks like Kojima Productions is setting up shop in Amsterdam right near Guerrilla Games, obviously in an effort to make the development process easier. The news was announced by Kojima at the PlayStation Experience 2016 event that took place not too long ago.
Shortly afterward, he was joined by PS4 lead architect, Mark Cerny, and Guerrilla Games’ managing director, Hermen Hulst, in order to talk about the partnership between the two studios. Actually, Kojima has been looking for a suitable engine for its games ever since he founded his own studio about a year ago. During the PlayStation Experience event, he explained why he chose to go with Decima and Guerrilla Games:
“It has to be technology and people, they cannot be separate. From the first moment I met Guerrilla I had a good feeling about this.”
He also said that the engine is “very appropriate to working on open worlds,” and he’s definitely right about this one, at least judging from the gameplay trailers that we’ve seen so far. How excited are you about Death Stranding, by the way?
