DeepCool AK620 Air CPU Cooler Review

Installation

The product manual for the DeepCool AK620 is rather limited in terms of written instructions. This isn’t overly surprising, as DeepCool does bring their products to many regions, and trying to make this work in various languages can always be, if not consuming of space, then at least problematic. – Fortunately, while you do largely only get diagrams, they are well presented and very easy to understand.

Mounting

Another huge positive factor for me is the installation methodology. Despite the rather unique cooler design, the manner in which you install this is about as straightforward as it gets. For those with any experience of CPU coolers, and particular air designs, although we’d always recommend consulting the manual, you’d probably be able to wing this and get it right. It’s just that intuitive.

What about that screwdriver DeepCool provides you with though? Well, you only really need it to actually mount the radiator to the base (since you have to go in between the radiator stacks). And for that job, it’s good, but you’d probably prefer to use a slightly better quality tool that you (hopefully) have at your own disposal. The one DeepCool provides you wish is certainly decent enough to get this fitted to your system, but as you might expect, it isn’t exactly 100% perfectly ideal either.

Overall Thoughts

From out of the box and onto our test bench, the DeepCool AK620 took me only around 6-7 minutes to install. This is pretty much entirely down to the fact that in terms of its design, this is about as easy as it gets for an air cooler as substantial as this. Even the fans, with those dreaded clips, fitted without any difficulty, and I didn’t even mildly graze my hands on the radiator fins, which is something that happens nearly all the time with a certain ‘Beige and Cream’ associated company.

A legitimate concern I do have with the DeepCool AK620, however, is RAM compatibility. I suspect that if you have rather chunky sticks of memory, you might find yourself being basically required to fit this cooler in a pull airflow configuration rather than push. Particularly so if you occupy all 4 DIMM slots (well, presuming your motherboard has 4 DIMM slots – This could potentially be an even bigger problem on MITX boards that only come with 2).

When fitted, however, I think the DeepCool AK620 looks surprisingly good. With its sleek black and silver aesthetic, I honestly don’t think that this would look out of place in any system build. And with the splitter provided by DeepCool, you have more than a few options to get clever in hiding the cables so that they are not visible.

On the whole, the installation methodology of the DeepCool AK620 is really easy. And certainly so when compared to other (in my opinion) unnecessarily elaborate attempts to reinvent the wheel. Once fitted as well, I think the aesthetics work exceptionally well. – With it fitted to our system, therefore, and with very little difficulty, I might again add, it’s now time to turn it on and see what kind of figures this cooler provides us with!
